Trade #1

Cleveland trades: Collin Sexton, J. R. Smith and Tristan Thompson

Orlando trades: Evan Fournier, Nikola Vucevic and '19 top 5 protected first round draft pick

Why for Cleveland? They acquire a couple of established players that fit into the roster plus a first round draft pick.

Why for Orlando? This is all about getting a very good prospect that could be their future at point guard.

I realize that frontcourt defense could be an issue, but I don't think Vucevic is a downgrade in that regard over Thompson.

Trade #2

Cleveland trades: George Hill

Miami trades: Goran Dragic

Why for Cleveland? This is about upgrading their point guard position and Dragic is a major upgrade over Hill.

Why for Miami? They shed a year off Dragic's contract in favor of Hill, who only has 1 million guaranteed for '19 - '20.

PG: Goran Dragic | Jordan Clarkson
SG: Evan Fournier
SF: Cedi Osman
PF: Kevin Love | Larry Nance
C: Nikola Vucevic | Ante Zizic
+ '19 first round draft pick from the Magic.

Thompson and Smith have negative contacts. You don't get assets and a 1st for negative contracts and a 8th pick.

Collin Sexton looks like he could be a future superstar.

Thompson is a negative contract for sure. Smith’s contract fairly close to an expiring and Fournier’s contract is a lot worse than Smith’s given the length and not much better than than Tristan’s. I don’t think either team would be overly excited with the Cavs. They probably like Sexton more than most and the Magic wouldn’t want to give up a pick in a Vucevic deal. I don’t see it for either team.

Fournier contact may be longer, but he's younger, a better defender, and would be a contributor on any team. Add that they are taking Thompson for a good exciting contract in vouch. Plus yes the magic need a PG. But they had an opportunity to draft Sexton if they thought he was the one. Not good for the magic at all.
