I don't think the clippers would be interested in anything other than maybe gallinari straight up because they can sign butler in the off season. Clippers have quite a few expiring contracts and a trade with them doesn't seem likely to me other than gallimari.

Gallo for Butler straight up? Really? A horrible contract for an expiring all star? That's pure insanity.

I realize the Clippers have cap space, but what is the last meaningful free agent signing they had? Not a resigning, but someone that left their team to join the Clippers in free agency. That's not a franchise that should rely on these type of guys just coming there.

So many people on this site say the words "why trade for them when they can just sign [player] in the offseason? ". Hasn't that mindset proven to be false in almost every instance? Especially if you're the Clippers and Knicks! The Knicks and Clippers have done it more than once and struck out every time. The Lakers relied on it and were terrible for half a decade (and continue to rely on it to potentially waste Lebron's final few years) . They have waited on Lebron's signing for 8 years.

Paul George was going to the Lakers. Lebron was going to the Knicks, then the Lakers (not this time, but last time) . Durant was headed to the Lakers/ Knicks/ Clippers. Cousins is headed to the Lakers. Westbrook won't resign in OKC, he'll sign with the Lakers. Aldrdige was headed to Dallas. So was Deandre Jordan.

I have no clue about anything you mentioned. Aldridge to dallas? Lbj to the knicks? It may have been in the media but I didn't take it seriously. Just like I am not buying into the idea a team will trade their future for a guy that said he would play for your team in 9 months. Your just feeding fantasy and hype, not reality. Wolves are saying they won't trade butler yet anyway and at the deadline he is not worth much. Certainly not drafted or future draft players. So yeah, go through the clippers lineup and find a player not young and just drafted or signed and come up with a realistic package. Gallinari is it. Great, you don't like him. I didn't post it because I care about your personal facebook page. I posted it because the clippers don't have much to trade except expiring contracts and future. You don't sign and deal griffin to trade away all that was acquired for another old guy 9 months later. It doesn't make sense in any world. Just like butler going to the Sixers. Every move the Sixers have done and not done indicates they are nowhere near giving a sh*t about a trade for butler. They want their assets. Particularly the younger ones.

@BMiller all of those players that you listed were all rumors, most i've never even heard of like lebron to the knicks or kd to the clippers, but the 3 teams that Butler listed were listed as preferred teams that he would resign with.

In regards to why would people sign with the clippers and the whole who was the last big free agent to sign with them narrative, that's pointless. They're in LA, with a new owner, new executives like Jerry West (who was a hugeeee recruiter for the warriors among other teams) . Butler lives in LA all offseason and they have the room to bring another star with him. It all makes sense.

The knicks have the same ownership in Dolan. If the clippers were still owned by sterling, that would make sense, but they're not. they're owned by a guy who is spending his money to bring in top notch executives and building new stadiums and practice facilities.

Show me the paper Butler wrote that included those 3 teams. If you can't, it's a rumor just like any other player. Also, George was the EXACT same situation. He "said" he wanted to play in LA. Then it didn't happen. Butler has now "said" he wants to play for those 3 teams. I'll believe it when I see it.

If you never heard Lebron to NY or KD to the Clippers, go look it up. It was a real thing. Heck, there's an article about "All the times the Clippers fooled themselves into thinking they would land a meaningful free agent". Durant, Lebron, Kobe, George all on that list. Butler could easily be next.

Also, best case scenario, you have a 33% chance at getting him if that list is true. If you trade for him, you prove you are committed to him and increase those odds. It's not like the list was one team.

Btec: Explain why Minny would ever consider that trade. I think they'd be better off just waiving Butler right now than taking Gallo's terrible contract. Or trade Butler for Evan Turner, at least he can get on the court.

And again, how is this Butler stuff not just the media? When did Butler call a press conference and personally state these things? Did I miss it?

Butlers agent, thibodeau, the wolves owner have all confirmed butler asked out and gave a list of preferences. (obviously because of his expiring contract) This is more than a rumor I think. I have no idea what Thibodeau wants really but with the moves the clippers have been making and jerry west as captain I really find it hard to believe the clippers would offer much in a trade beyond expiring deals or gallinari. It would shock me if Robinson or Alexander or a future pick (a 1st anyway) were traded for butler. (clippers already traded 2019 protected to the celtics) . We are truly worlds apart if you would rather have turner than gallinari on your team.

Gallo has played 481 games in 9 years. That’s 50 games a season. He can’t stay on the court. I’d take an interior player making less money over paying Gallo 44 million to rehab over the next two years.

And like I said, even if all this is true, the Clippers aren’t the only team on this rumored list, they’re not holding all the cards. If they want him, they have to give up assets. If they don’t want him, then it’s a pointless conversation.

We agree on something, I also think the NY teams desire butler more and have the right pieces to get something done in this particular situation. Jerry west is a shark, he'll get a deal done if it's right.
