Three way trade IND/CHI/PHX

Ind trades away: Paul George, Ian Mahinmi
Ind receives: Joakim Noah, Markieff Morris, Cle 2016 1st rd (top 10 prot), Miami 1st rd 2017 or 2018 or 2019 (top 7 prot 17/18, unprotected 2019), Miami 1st rd 2021 (unprotected)

Chi trades away: Joakim Noah, Bobby Portis, E'Twaun Moore
Chi receives: Ian Mahinmi, PJ Tucker, Archie Goodwin, Detroit 2nd rd 2020

Phx trades away: Markieff Morris, PJ Tucker, Archie Goodwin, 3-1st rd picks, 1-2nd rd pick
Phx receives: Paul George, Bobby Portis, E'Twaun Moore

IND
George Hill/Joe Young
Monta Ellis/Rodney Stuckey
CJ Miles/Chase Budinger
Markieff Morris/Jordan Hill
Joakim Noah/Myles Turner

Indiana gets the 3 1st rounders from Phoenix, Markieff Morris a true stretch PF on one of the best contracts in the sport, and Joakim Noah's 13.4mil expiring contract. All while maintaining a playoff caliber roster in the East.

CHI
Derrick Rose/Aaron Brooks/Archie Goodwin
Jimmy Butler/Kirk Hinrich/Archie Goodwin
Doug McDermott/PJ Tucker/Tony Snell
Nikola Mirotic/Taj Gibson
Pau Gasol/Ian Mahinmi

Chicago gets combo guard Archie Goodwin who is insurance for Rose, a 3/D wing in PJ Tucker, a replacement back up center, a second round pick, and no longer pays the luxury tax. And since PJ Tucker's contract isn't garunteed next year they can still get 9.5 of Noah's 13.4 off the books if the choose.

PHX
Brandon Knight/Ronnie Price
Eric Bledsoe/Devin Booker/E'Twaun Moore
Paul George/TJ Warren
Jon Leuer/Bobby Portis
Tyson Chandler/Alex Len

Phoenix gets the All Star they need in Paul George playing at his preferred SF position. Bobby Portis gives them a player 23 or younger with upside at every position. This allows them to afford the loss of all the draft picks without mortgaging their future.

Who says no to this deal? Indiana obviously loses the best player but if they want to truly contend it could set them up for the next decade without having to tank ala the Celtics with the Nets picks. They would also have enough room to sign two max contracts next offseason. Chicago gets better roster balance, doesn't pay the tax, maintains flexibility for free agency and gets a pick too. Phoenix locks themselves into the playoffs and sets themselves up to stay there while still controlling all of their future picks. Seems like a win/win/win.

Seems that this isn't a popular trade idea. I'm still curious who says no to the deal. Is it one team? 2? Or do all 3 feel it is bad for them?

To start, it's a terrible trade for the Pacers. They get rid of their franchise player, and in return they get an expiring contract, a decent sf/pf, and while they do get 3 firsts, they aren't attractive. Cleveland's 1st is going to be 28-30. Then you have a miami giving 2 1sts. Seeing as they owe the sixers the 16 1st, the soonest it will be is 2018. So now they are 3 years out from seeing that one. Then you give the 2021 first. they aren't trading their franchise player for a pick 6 years from now. This is an awful return for the pacers.

Chicago, they make out fine.

Phoneix. they get rid of 3 players (fyi, its marcus, not markieff. Markieff is on the pistons) Tucker and Goodwin are part of their future plans. Then they get rid of 3 1sts, and a 2nd. So they gut their team to get George, who may just leave them when his contract is up.

So 2 teams. 2 teams have zero interest in this 3 team trade. Make sense?

Markieff Morris is on the Suns! Marcus was traded to Detroit.

I see your points. I know PG is the big fish in the deal and figured they would be the team most reluctant. My thought was that Cleveland is going to own the East for the next few years and so why waste PGs prime when those assets could be coming at a perfect time after. Phoenix has been desperate to find a star and make the playoffs. I think they would absolutely overpay to get there. Thanks for the response.
