Zion probably (most definitely) wants out of New Orleans. I could see him wanting to play for the Knicks and I do not think the Pelicans are going to really want to keep him given all that has happened. So:

New York Knicks receive: Zion Williamson

New Orleans Pelicans receive: Julius Randle, Obi Toppin, 2023 First Round Pick via Dallas, 2024 First Round Pick

This gives a decent package of two picks, young talent, and a former all star for a young player with injury concerns. I think its fair value given the pressure New Orleans would face and what they could realistically get for him.

I would pay that much for a player who can’t take care of his body like a pro should.

How does NO take on the nearly $16 mil in salary difference when New Orleans is currently over the salary cap?

And before you say $17 mil trade exception, understand that trade exceptions do not work that way. They could put Toppin into the exception, and still need New Orleans to add about $6 mil in salary (Satoransky? ) to make the numbers work.

Thanks Friedman for pointing that out. There’s no way Pels take that offer anyway.

Lakers Offseason:

Lakers/ Knicks trade:
D'Angelo Russel for Carmelo Anthony

Draft:
#2 Pick get Brandon Ingram

Free Agent Signings:
Lebron James for 3 years, Player option on third year
Dwayne Wade for 3 years, Player option on third year
Jordan Clarkson for 2 years Player Option on Second to bet on himself
-Lakers have 70 million in cap space to bring in Melo, Wade, and Lebron. Now that Lebron has won a ring in Cleveland, it is certainly possible that he could leave the team. This would let Lebron, Melo, and Wade play together.

Lineup:
Clarkson/ Free Agent Veteran
Wade/ Williams
Lebron/ Ingram
Melo/ Nance Jr.
Randle/ Sacre

2017 Offseason for Lakers

- Jordan Clarkson leaves and.
-Sign Chris Paul who COULD opt out of his contract with the Clippers and also be the last piece of Lebrons wish list. This also fills the hole left by moving Russel.

I think this could be a possibility LeBron is interested in pursuing.

If Bron wanted to leave for a bigger market now that he's won, I think he's pick New York over LA. But there's a 99% chance he stays in Cleveland.

New York Knicks trade with Boston Celtics

NYK trades: Melo,
BOS trades: Smart, Young, Lee, First Rounder (via Celtics so a mid first rounder), 2nd Round Pick (via Celtics)

The money does not match, and the roster numbers after don't make complete sense, but what does everyone think?

The Celtics would get that go to guy they have been looking for while giving up Smart (or Bradley), Young to replace Melo for the Knicks, Lee to make the money match and a first rounder that is not from Brooklyn because Boston prefers to keep a high pick unless they could get Cousins (maybe include SAC in this trade? )

How would everyone make this work, if you think it is even reasonable?

I think the Knicks would rather trade for a guard like Jennings rather than blow it up, and James Young replacing Carmelo Anthony is absolutely insane.

2.) 29 Dec 2015 22:23:39
As a Celtics fan I would hate that.

Knicks/ Celtics

Trade Carmelo Anthony to the Celtics makes sense given a few conditions. The Celtics will need to be going "all-in" as they did in 2007-2008 by trading for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Celtics seeking out Carmelo could be very realistic.

For the Knicks, if full rebuild is the goal, trading Carmelo to the Celtics will make a lot of sense. The Celtics have a slew of draft picks and young prospects. To trade away some of these assets for more proven vets (such as Carmelo) could pay dividends.

The trade could look something like this:

Celtics get Carmelo Anthony
New York gets David Lee, Marcus Smart, James Young and either two or three Future First Rounders.

Keep in mind, the Celtics are giving up David Lee to make salary match (and give the Knicks salary relief to chase free agents the following year), two young prospects in Smart and Young (Smart plays the Point as does Avery Bradley, Isiah Thomas and Terry Rozier) and two future picks (perhaps their own outright given to the Knicks as well as the Nets first rounder acquired from the Pierce, Garnett trade.

For any Celtics fans who see this as a lopsided trade it is not. The Celtics get a superstar scorer who can serve as a second option to another star they could certainly acquire from another trade given the stockpile of players and picks they possess. The Celtics could part with players like Lee, Smart and Young (or perhaps Thomas in place of Smart which the Knicks would prefer) and not have a hiccup as they are expendable. With Sullinger and Turner also in the trade rumor mill, the Celtics would be poised to make a big move in the trade market.

Bradley smart lee for Melo Calderon no picks fair deal. With that in mind melo block every trade a city he does not like

2.) 10 Aug 2015 15:38:42
I think he would want to go to the Celtics if it means winning, which they could potentially set them selves up to do. You don't need to trade Calderon anymore because of the cap relief from David Lee's contract. And picks need to be thrown in because a trade for Carmelo means you're seeking to rebuild and need draft picks to replenish the draft pick horror that is the Knicks.

3.) 11 Aug 2015 00:43:24
No melo trade worth not trading calderon, complete rebuilding or no rebuilding

4.) 11 Aug 2015 01:28:27
The C's don't want Melo!!! They would not win with him, he needs 40 to 50 shots per game to be effective and no way he can share the ball and be good and play D. Terrible trade idea, if it were D Cousins then it would be a different story.

5.) 11 Aug 2015 02:35:15
Melo could get traded to the Celtics and the Knicks will still win more games than Boston

6.) 11 Aug 2015 15:56:30
Would love carmellllllo but have to keep my boya Marc smart

7.) 11 Aug 2015 22:17:15
@1NBA, Knicks couldn't win with Melo and now you say they will win more games than Boston?

I doubt Kevin Durant leaves OKC this year, but if he did, he could try to help the Thunder out in a sign and trade similar to Kevin Love when he left MINN. A team like the Celtics could be chasing Durant and could make a deal for him.

Boston trades: #3 pick, another 2016 first rounder, 2018 BK first rounder, Crowder, Smart, Hunter, 2 future second rounders

OKC trades: Durant after signing a 5 year max deal

This trade is something different for the #3 pick, and while it doesn't make sense for Durant money wise, it is an interesting scenario. Also, this helps OKC for the future if they feel Durant and Westbrook could be on the way out of Oklahoma. Thoughts?

Also, i'm not a Celtics fan so if anyone thinks this trade is one sided either way add to it.

Kevin love didn't "help" the timberwolves by agreeing to a sign and trade. They never publicized this but its recently come out that the two sides lost any trust in each other when Kevin lied about breaking his hand doing "knuckle pushups" when in reality he broke it punching a friend who went after a girl Kevin wanted.

The team doctors could easily tell the difference between a stress fracture and an impact fracture, but Kevin refused to admit what really happened because he was afraid the team would trip a misconduct clause in his contract and recoup millions. Rather than file suit and bottom out his trade value, the team kept quiet.

When Kevin made comments about how he was upset that "some people" (everyone who he worked with) were questioning his story the team was done. It was a miracle it was kept quiet and the wolves got Wiggins.
That's the kind of person Kevin Love is!

2.) 31 May 2016 22:40:28
Well two things.
-One Kevin Love didn't do a sign and trade to go to Cleveland.

-Two sign and trades are only meant for two reasons. One so that a player can get the most money, and any place that Durant goes to he will likely sign a short term deal so that he can get more money the following year. Two because the team that that player wants to go to doesn't have enough cap space available to sign the player out right, and most teams this offseason will have enough to sign Durant out right.

3.) 01 Jun 2016 00:47:08
Interesting Winston, thanks for sharing. I guess NBA players shouldn't be punching friends or it will break their hand.

4.) 01 Jun 2016 03:27:29
Ya for reasons larrylegend said a sign and trade doesn't really apply to this situation. I don't see Durant signing more than a two year deal with player option so he can make the most money. Regardless it makes no sense for Durant to "help out the Thunder by doing a sign and trade" because he'd conversely be hurting the team that he is going to.

5.) 01 Jun 2016 03:45:19
@jaw: I've always thought the same thing about a sign and trade deal. Why would a superstar help strip the team they're going to of valuable assets that they'd need to help win a championship once said star arrives at said team. The only reason would be to fit a huge contract under the cap, which is totally moot this off season.

6.) 01 Jun 2016 03:51:55
@theking, that's the word on the street from people who know anyway, and FYI the same voices say Derozan to LA is like 90% sure. Only major mismanagement by the Lakers FO could keep it from happening. Supposedly its the worst kept secret among the players themselves.

So Chicago gives up a young guy with promise and a contributor in Young for a 2nd? Yeah does not seem right.

So trade a scorer and a pick for a guy who can only rebound and two pieces we traded to Cleveland for second round picks? It isn't worth getting rid of Noah's contract because they need to rebuild anyways and money being spent on Noah is not as much an issue.

I doubt the Timberwolves would take the pick lottery protected when the Knicks could just tank. If I were the Knicks, I would take this deal to shed Noah's contract.

The Knicks would not want Lopez, let alone give up what could end up being two lottery picks much like the Nets did.
