SAC-ORL

Sacramento sends Rudy Gay

Orlando sends Mario Hezonja, DJ Augustin, 2017 First Round Pick (top-14 protected)

Sacramento gets a fairly nice haul for Gay with a reliable PG (which they need) and a nice prospect, plus the potential of a pick in the 15-19 range in a loaded draft.

Orlando gets a proven perimeter scorer, which they desperately need, and gets rid of Augustin's contract. The pick is also nice because of the experiment fails and they miss the playoffs, they can still keep their pick.

Why would Orlando ever do this? If Hennigan did this, then his fired immediately. He cleared Harris to then loose a 1st, Henzonja and Augustin (who si playing reasonably well) for Gay?

Orlando is a mess and I don't like the moves they've made past few years or the moves they say they want to make. They claim they want to add scoring through the trade market and Rudy Gay is one of the top ones readily available so its a fairly natural fit. I don't however think Rudy Gay's value is nearly this high especially considering he is an expiring contract. I don't think it should take more than Jeff Green and the Magic 1st (lottery protected) . If Magic give up Hezonja to get him then next year could look real rough as Gay and Ibaka enter FA.

TOR-SAC

Toronto sends Delon Wright, Norman Powell, Jonas Valanciunas, 2018 1st round pick top-8 protected, 2020 1st round pick unprotected

Sacramento sends DeMarcus Cousins

Toronto gives themselves a legit shot to make the finals and even hang with Golden State by acquiring Cousins. Their offense is already arguably the best in the league (leading in Opponent-Adjusted Offensive Rating) and Boogie could certainly push them over the top. Losing Powell and Valanciunas hurts, but they are deep enough to weather it, and Cousins can more than match their production.

Sacramento gets a nice package because it not only includes pieces that are valuable now but ones that have upside as well. Powell has been incredibly efficient in limited minutes and looks like a Wes Matthews-type guy, someone who could be their long-term starter at the 2 and be a real solid guy. Wright is an interesting PG prospect who hasn't gotten much run in TOR because of CoJo and Lowry. And Valanciunas is a good center who doesn't turn 25 until May and is on a great deal for the next few years. Meanwhile, the 2018 and 2020 picks have great potential. This trumps the Celtics package because it gives them some actual sure-thing pieces with upside while also having a couple of good picks.

ORL-NOP

Orlando trades CJ Watson, Mario Hezonja
New Orleans trades Tyreke Evans

Orlando gambles a bit on Evans, but they desperately need a shot creator on the perimeter and Evans gives them a shot at that. Front office is fighting for their jobs, and Evans has a chance to push them into the playoffs this season. Plus, they get to dump Watson, who's contributing nothing.

New Orleans doesn't have plans for Evans in their future, and Hezonja is a good opportunity to take a flier on. They need to try to get a guy with some upside, as they don't have many great paths to getting good players otherwise.

Both these franchises are reeling after once looking hopeful. I don't like the trade for either side. I don't think Evans is the answer and I think Hezonja is a steep price to pay to find out especially when Evans is going into FA this summer. For New Orleans I guess they aren't losing much in Evans (not sure if they have plans to try and resign him) but I think Hezonja is too much of a project they should be targeting more ready to contribute guys that are just currently underutilized.
