Knicks/Cavs:

To CLE - Carmelo Anthony, Jose Calderon

To NYK - Tristan Thompson (S&T), Brendan Haywood, Matt Dellavadova (S&T)

Let me first say that I'm a Knicks fan who is not big on Melo. Moving him for another young piece in Thompson, a non-guaranteed or expiring contract in Haywood and a less expensive backup PG in Delli gives the Knicks two more good young pieces to rebuild with, and more financial flexibility going into next offseason.

Cavs came close this year, and if Melo could accept a number 2 or 3 option role, it would be hard to stop the Cavs. Being friends with LBJ should help getting Melo to agree to the trade, and for LBJ, should soften the blow of losing Thompson.

Knicks target KJ McDaniels first, and then if they do not land him, sign Mbah a Moute and Landry Fields as short term solutions to fill Melo's spot until next year's FA period.

Knicks 2015-16

PG - Grant, Dellavadova, Galloway
SG - Afflalo, Galloway
SF - McDaniels (Mbah a Moute), Early, Williams, Fields
PF - Thompson, Porzingis, O'Quinn, Williams
C - Lopez, Thomas, O'Quinn, Haywood

Much improved, maybe a 7th or 8th seed if things fall into place. 2016 FA and long term, four or five good young pieces in place that will make the Knicks a more attractive team to join.

If I'm the Cavs I'd rather have Thompson than Melo. Thompson's rebounding and defensive energy is more valuable to this team than another high profile offensive player. Plus, where would Melo play on this Cavs team? Not Power Forward or Small Forward (because of Love and LeBron) so that leaves two guard as the only position he could start at. LeBron, Melo, Irving, and Love is simply too much in terms of big time scorers who want the ball in their hands.

With knicks current roster it has to be Love over Thompson. A front court of Lebron Melo Love is too soft. Or Melo Thompson Lebron is too short.

As it stands, Thompson is more valuable to the Cavs than Melo would be. He doesn't fit what the cavs need.

Kyrie needs the ball in his hands, Lebron works with the ball in his hands & Melo would need it too.

& as Rerur said, where would he fit in? I doubt the Cavs would want to play Love at the C position.
