Kings are not going to use remaining $11 mil in cap space on Kanter without draft pick compensation. And a late 2nd rounder in 2019 is not going to be enough.

They are looking for a 1st rounder to get some team like Portland or Washington under the luxury tax at the trade deadline.

Yeah, the Kings are in a position where they can charge a ton for even an expiring contract, if an owner desperately wants out from under some luxury taxes.

That is only true for the Kings between now and the trade deadline. At the start of next season, teams like Atlanta and Brooklyn will have massive available cap space again.

Sure, but there’s a good chance that a few teams in the luxury could be floundering in the playoff race and desperate to get off money. The King’s are the only game in town right now. If that happens, the Kings could get a well above average haul for what they’re giving up. Not to mention that the Kings have a few interesting players that they could ship out, if they fall a little bit in the standings.

The only real problem is that there are only 2 teams that the King's current cap space will get them below the luxury tax AND have a 2019 1st rounder available to trade--Portland and Washington. Not sure what the Blazers new owners want to do and don't know if or when Wizards give up on the playoffs. Kings don't have a lot of options. But we will see next month.

Fredman kanter is expiring and Thomas on the books for 1.5 guarenteed, I'm not sure why you said that.

Ok Shizzee. let's try it this way. OVERALL, Kanter is only a little better than Koufus and Thomas is not going to see time on the court much like Randolph. Is that slight increase worth the $5.5 mil in cap space this year (Kanter + Thomas = $25+ mil in salary vs. Koufus + Randolph = $20+) plus the $1.5 mil in cap space next year to waive Thomas? $7 mil in additional salary and Kanter brings 2-3 more wins, I'll pass. Kings weren't suppose to be this good, so right now we are playing with house money.

Sorry, I would rather keep the $11 mil in cap space the Kings currently have with a fair chance of getting a 1st rounder in salary dumping at the trade deadline.

Plus, there is the whole Koufus being one of Joerger's guys and we are trying to get the coach to sign an extension.
